I think the entire cheating concept comes because of the limitations imposed on us by society. In traditional monogamous relationships, often it's a negative thing if your partner looks at another person, especially talk to you about it. The reason why there is so much infidelity is not because of the need for cheating, it's because of lack of communication and understanding. As someone who has been in an open marriage for 20 years, I honestly believe that transitioning into polyamory was the best decision I have made for myself. Whether it's monogamy or open relationship or marriage, without communication, trust, and respect, it will be difficult to feel the excitment in relationship. As long as you are able to love freely and choose who will receive your love, you will not have the need to do something outside the agreements of your relationship.

Not a chance. To say that you would cheat on your partner, if you wouldn't get caught, is admitting that the only reason you are loyal to your partner is out of fear/guilt involved with getting caught being a cheater. If you want to cheat on your partner, you should take that as a red flag that you need to end the relationship.
