Very true Jessica. My sister in law also is an HR specialist and says the same thing. Some companies that are compassionate (for example, Johns Hopkins) actually work around state laws that don't allow gay marriage by putting into their HR policy that same-sex domestic partners can get the exact same benefit setup (like health insurance) as a straight married couple. It was a kind gesture, though it only goes so far because there are the other remaining issues like taxes and inheritance.
Just graduated with a degree in Human Resources and I think same sex marriage should be allowed to make certain Benefits actually benefit everyone. Especially with Health insurance with a spouse and taxes. It's not fair that they would not get the same benefits as a married woman and man.
